New ZORBAX silica technology that uses superficially porous silica, as opposed to the totally porous silica used in standard, RRHT and RRHD columns.
Advantages of Agilent Poroshell 120
Much faster and more efficient separations than Standard HPLC columns, without the need for expensive UPLC instrumentation
Efficiencies comparable to 1.8μm columns
Can be used on all HPLC systems - no need to invest in UPLC equipment
Increase in separation speed and efficiency can result in better sensitivity, lower limits of detection
Agilent’s Zorbax Sol Gel Technology used to coat the solid core in a single process gives excellent mechanical robustness
How does it work?
Improves separation efficiency and decreases analysis times using standard HPLC equipment.
The pore size is smaller in comparison to totally porous silica - i.e. reduced mass transfer effects. This means the separation happens faster.
By its nature this type of particle has a very narrow particle size distribution.
The diffusion path lengths of all molecules through the column become more uniform - leading to very efficient peaks.
Because the particle size is 2.7μm and because less mobile phase is required to fill the column - the back pressure is only 40 - 50% compared to <2μm particle columns.
Who can use it?
Anyone that uses standard HPLC instrumentation.
400 and 600 bar rated HPLC equipment users.
